About CO2-SMART

Geologic CO2 Storage (GCS) is an important part of the global effort to reduce CO2 emissions in a safe, responsible, and cost-effective way. The CO2-SMART Center will bring together key organizations across industry, government and academia to address challenges in the implementation and large-scale deployment of GCS technologies. The Center will integrate advances in multi-physics modeling and simulation, subsurface monitoring data acquisition, and modern data science analytics to develop novel technologies for de-risking GSC and enabling its safe implementation. An important mission of the Center will be to promote public awareness about GCS and to facilitate the development of policy and regulatory frameworks for GCS. In addition, the Center will develop and train the next generation of scientists and engineers that are needed to lead GCS projects.

In our recent Planning Meeting on September 12-13, 2023, the Center faculty worked with prospective Industry Advisory Board (IAB) members to refine the planned research directions of the Center and tailored research priorities to meet the needs of our stakeholders. Our Center IAB will select the first set of research projects at our Kick-Off Meeting on February 18-19, 2025.
