For information on how to join the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) of CO2-SMART, please contact the Center Leadership. Prospective members are strongly urged to attend our upcoming Center Kick-off Meeting at the USC Campus in Los Angeles, scheduled for early Spring 2025 (the exact dates and more details will be posted to this website soon).

CO2-SMART Planning Meeting

The two-day Planning Meeting took place on September 12-13, 2023 at USC. It provided an opportunity for prospective IAB members to participate in an IUCRC meeting, meet the Center team and other prospective IAB members, learn about Center research plans and provide feedback on the proposed research directions and project portfolios. The industry feedback were incorporated into a Phase I Center proposal, which was awarded by NSF in June 2024.

CO2-SMART Membership Value Proposition

As an NSF-IUCRC, the CO2-SMART Center strives to accelerate research impact through industry-focused partnership. This is achieved by forming an Industry Advisory Board (IAB), representing the industry members, that steers the Center research directions and selects its project portfolios on an annual basis. The IAB members benefit from significant leverage of their membership fees, with substantial NSF support for Center administration and management and with a minimal (10%) overhead rate that allows 90% of membership fees to go directly toward research funding. Some of the in CO2-SMART membership benefits include:

  • Driving research directions and selecting projects to meet the Industry needs
  • High return on investment through cooperative research and additional NSF
  • Industry networking opportunities among IAB members at regular IAB meetings
  • Opportunities to recruit talented students & post-docs with direct experience in Center research, including paid internships through NSF INTERN program
  • Access to faculty and world-class research facilities at R1 University sites (USC and PSU)
  • Engaging in effective outreach programs to increase awareness CO2 storage
